|Description:||Are you ready for Summer! How about seeing old friends throughout the summer and possibly making new ones at the Granger Summer Camp! We will be doing fun and exciting things at the Granger Community Center along with field trips and bringing in special guests.
*Please keep in mind some weeks are subject to change depending on the weather and availability.* Summer Rec. is for children who have completed Kindergarten- through 6th grade. (At the end 2016-2017 school year.)
June 6 & 8 Welcome to Camp: With the first week of camp we will talk about Safety. The fire chief and police chief will be invited in to discuss safety in and outside your home. Camp tie dye t-shirts will be made to be worn on field trip days through out the summer. Ice breaker games will be played to get to know your fellow campers.
June 13 & 15 Field Trips and FUN: A couple of field trips are planned for this week. The first one will be to Wabi Sabi Farms in Granger. We will take what we learned from the farm and try and grow something of our own. Second field trip will be to Picket Fence Creamery near Woodward. An opportunity to try some tasty treats and some of that yummy ice cream! As time allows we will get in touch with nature to play some Backyard BINGO! See if we can find different pieces of nature to fill our BINGO boards!
June 20 & 22 Bowling and MORE: Who doesn't love making crafts! Couple of items we will be making include Dream Catchers and Eye Spy Bottles. Let’s go bowling! We will take a short trip to Madrid to Tiger Bowl. Whether you have bowled before or never have, a guaranteed good time for everyone!
June 27 & 29 Animals and Army: Special guest Critter Cindy (Cindy Blobaum) a Naturalist (a person who studies plants and animals as they live in nature) will visit and she is likely to bring along something interesting for us to learn about! Want to learn more about our Army and Air National Guard? Join us for an exciting trip to Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA. We will learn about the different wars and possibly participate in a scavenge hunt.
July 11 & 13 Scientist Week: We become scientist for the week doing some fizzy, slimy, coloring, and rubbery experiments! No harmful products will be used in any of the experiments.
July 18 & 20 Beat the Heat: It’s the middle of July and it’s HOT! What better time than now to get out the slip-n-slide, water balloons, Jester Park, and more water fun activities. If it gets just way to hot we will move inside the Community Center to cool off and watch a movie or play some indoor games.
July 25 & 17 Christmas in July: Merry Christmas! Only 22 weeks until Christmas! Let’s get started by making some ornaments or fun things cling on the windows. Who says it can’t snow in July? We will make it happen!
August 1 & 3 Cooking Week: I scream - you scream - we all scream for Ice Cream! So let’s make our own! We will be making some vanilla ice cream and adding some sprinkles! How about cake? We will also be making cake in a cup - Yum Yum! To help us learn about making good eating habits we are bringing in a special guest. I am sure we will be told it’s ok to have ice cream and cake once in a while.
August 8 & 10 Puppet Play Week: It’s our last week and we are going to make sock puppets and put on a short play for the Granger Nursing Home residents. Parents are invited to see their children become stars!
Note: Depending on how long some of the activities take - we will also be doing outside play - baseball, kickball, soccer or taking a walk to the park.
